Pakistan Court Rejects Imran Khan’s Urgent appeal to Suspend Jail Trial in Contempt Case

The Lahore High Court rejected former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s request to immediately suspend his jail trial in a contempt case initiated by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The ECP had launched contempt proceedings against Khan for alleged “intemperate language.” The court raised objections about certified document copies and questioned jurisdiction, suggesting the petitioner approach the Islamabad High Court or Rawalpindi bench. The court also noted the absence of judges in Rawalpindi and referred the matter to the principal seat. The counsel’s request to suspend the jail trial was denied.
