The China Earthquake Networks Center reported that a quake struck Wushu county in Aksu prefecture after 2 am local time, with about 200 rescuers dispatched to the epicenter. Six people were injured, and over 120 homes were damaged or collapsed in freezing weather. Of the injured, two were serious, and four were minor. The quake, affecting a rural area mainly inhabited by Uyghurs, downed power lines but electricity was quickly restored. Several aftershocks were reported, and tremors reached neighboring countries. The US Geological Survey warned of significant damage, though none was immediately reported in the mountainous region. This comes a day after a landslide in southwest China and follows a deadly December quake in the northwest.
